Hey everyone, this is Kali from TechFanciers!
Today, we are taking a major leap forward with the Asus Zenfone Lite L1. We are moving away from the stock Android Oreo and installing DotOS 3.0, which is based on Android 9.0 (Pie).
This is a GSI (Generic System Image) installation. Since our device supports Project Treble, we can install these universal ROMs to get the latest Android features. In this guide, I will walk you through the flashing process, the files you need, and the patch required to fix bootloops.
⚠️ Prerequisites
- Unlocked Bootloader: Your device must be unlocked.
- TWRP Recovery: You must have TWRP installed to flash these files.
- Backup: Mandatory. Take a full TWRP backup (System, Data, Boot) before proceeding. If anything goes wrong, you can restore this to go back.
- Storage: A PC and an SD Card (recommended) to store the ROM files.
Required Files
- DotOS 3.0 GSI Zip: (Make sure it is the ARM64 A-only version).
- GSI Bootloop Fix Patch: (This allows the GSI to boot on our specific device).
- Note: This DotOS build comes with GApps pre-installed, so you don’t need a separate GApps package.
Installation Guide
Step 1: File Preparation Download the DotOS zip file and extract it. You should see a file named system.img. Copy this image file and the GSI Bootloop Fix zip file to your SD card.
Step 2: Wipe Partitions
- Boot into TWRP Recovery.
- Go to Wipe > Advanced Wipe.
- Select Dalvik, Cache, System, and Data.
- Swipe to Wipe.
Step 3: Flash the System Image
- Go back to the TWRP Home screen and tap Install.
- Tap on the “Install Image” button (bottom right).
- Navigate to your SD card and select the
system.imgfile you extracted earlier. - When asked for the partition, select System Image.
- Swipe to confirm Flash.
Step 4: Flash the Bootloop Fix
- Go back to the Install menu.
- Select the “Install Zip” button (if you are still in image mode).
- Select the GSI Bootloop Fix Patch zip file.
- Swipe to confirm Flash.
Step 5: Reboot
- Once done, go to Reboot > System.
- Be Patient: The first boot can take 5 to 10 minutes. You will see the DotOS boot animation.
First Impressions & Bugs
- Performance: The UI is incredibly smooth and responsive compared to stock.
- Features: You get the full Android Pie experience, including the new recents menu and gesture controls.
- Known Bug: Currently, VoLTE is not working. You can use data, but calls over Jio might fail. I will cover a fix for this in an upcoming video.
Conclusion If you want a fresh look and newer Android version, DotOS 3.0 is a fantastic choice for the Lite L1. Just keep the VoLTE bug in mind if you rely on HD calling.
